Macular Degeneration

Macular degeneration is a common condition that develops as people age. However, it affects the ability to see clearly. Patients will have blurry vision, difficulty reading, trouble driving, or a hard time recognizing faces. The macula represents the central
part of the eye which focuses on objects directly in front of you.

A "dry" form of the disease causes dimming and blurry vision in the central region. In the "wet" form, the symptoms appear very quickly and can decompensate faster causing severe vision loss.

The exact causes of macular degeneration are not known. There are vitamin supplements that may help to prevent the severity of this disease. However, you should discuss with your ophthalmologist and have a proper eye exam to prevent any vision problems in the future.
